National Biennial Yucatán 2010-2011 / National Novel Prize for Literature


In an effort to strengthen the literary vocations and to discover new artistic talents to enrich our contemporary literature,

the Yucatan state government
through the Institute of Culture of Yucatan

calls the

State and National Awards Literature Bases





1. The competition is open from this publication and open to all writers who demonstrate a minimum residence of five consecutive years in our country and all Mexican writers, regardless of their place of residence. May not participate authors who work in the respective Literature areas of the organizing institutions or who have previously won this award.
2. The awards are divided into two types: a) National Novel Prize "Justo Sierra O'Reilly" and b) National Short Story Prize "Juan García Ponce."
3. In each category will be awarded a single and indivisible prize of $ 35,000.00 (Thirty-five thousand pesos 00/100 MN) and the winning entries will be published.
4. Participants should send a digital version and four copies of a novel, and a free theme, with a minimum length of 91 pages (no limit set) for the Prize "Just Sierra O'Reilly, and a minimum 60 and maximum of 90 on the Prize "Juan García Ponce."
5. The papers should indicate the mode in which they participate and be written in English. The digital version should be submitted on a CD as a text document (doc, txt or similar) in Times New Roman 12 point and double-spaced, while the prints must be on letter size paper, on one side and correspond identically with the digital version.
6. The works must be unpublished and not be competing in another contest or have been awarded.
7. Contestants must participate under a pseudonym. Assistant to work in a sealed envelope and identified with the same pseudonym, will include an identification card with your full name, address, telephone number and, where appropriate, e-mail.
8. Stems of identification shall be deposited in a Notary Public of the city of Merida. The notary will only bring the Honorable Jury to correspond to the winners, the others will be destroyed to protect the authors.
9. The contestants work will be received at the address listed at the end of this booklet.
10. The closing date will be until Friday, June 3, 2011 at 18:00. Case works sent by post are accepted those whose date of the postmark that indicated or earlier.
11. The jury found will consist of three writers, scholars and renowned literary critics, whose name will be disseminated promptly.
12. The decision of the Honorable Jury will announce a notary public and calling on the media. Such failure will be reported immediately to the successful bidder and published in the media.
13. The award ceremony will be held on Wednesday, September 14, 2011.
14. For winners residing outside the state of Yucatan, living expenses and transportation within the country will be covered by the organizing institutions.
15. The originals and copies of the works that are not winners will be destroyed.
16. The promotion and dissemination of this competition is conducted in coordination with the Ministry of Education of the State Government, the National Council for Culture and the Arts, the National Institute of Fine Arts and the Center for Writers Yucatan AC
17. Participation in the competition implies acceptance of all stipulated by this call.
18. Matters not provided for in this will be resolved at the discretion of the Jury and Honorable organizers.
